Hopelessly Devoted To You Vol. 3
Hopeless Records
2000
Samplers are a favorite pastime of mine. You
can get 'em cheap and there are always a
couple of songs or bands you dig or don't know about. You can even get unreleased
material. It's a win/win situation. This Hopeless sampler is no different.
It has the good, the bad, and The Queers.
I'm just going to make this easy for all of you. I suggest you buy this sampler for the $3.98 suggested retail price and choose your own favorites--somewhat akin to a Choose Your Own Adventure book. Alas, I know some of you need to be told what is cool, hip, and swinging. I will tell you this, as well as what is 99-cent bin material.
Track 1: Dillinger Four "Our Science Is Tight"
Kick ass! Buy Dillinger Four immediately! Pay full price.
Track 2: The Weakerthans "Watermark"
You buy now, sensitive boy! (See full album review).
Track 3: Samiam "Boy With Monkey"
Best Samiam I've head for a while. Buy it!
Track 4: Against All Authority "Pestilent Existence"
Wait for 99-cent bin.
Track 5: The Queers "Little Rich Working Class Oi Boy"
Funny, but I'm not gonna buy this. It does point out a "Working Class" scene flaw. 99-cent bin.
Track 6: Fifteen "Did You Know"
My friend Greg will dig this! I think I will too. I don't usually like Fifteen--like "Save Our Mother" stance--but this stuff rocks long time, big boy. This is a good addtion to any solid punk rock collection. Pay full price.
Track 7: Mustard Plug "Already Gone"
Good song...good band...cool. Ska Punk. Me like! You should too. Buy now. Full price.
Track 8: JJ Nobody and the Regulars "Do It All Again"
Kinda good, but no cash shall flow forth from these pockets for such "Core" material...Medio-CORE! 99-cent bin.
Track 9: Selby Tigers "Droid"
I love this band name! Chick punks are very exciting! If you like Tsunami Bomb, you will like this. $3.99 bin.
Track 10: Scared of Chaka "The Millionth Mile"
I like this band. I really, really, really, really wish this could be mixed properly...it screams to be a big, full, Emo-filled product. It is not. It is very thin and sounds like some early 80's poorly-mixed punk album. $2.99 bin.
Track 11: Falling Sickness "Simple Needs"
Do not buy!
Track 12: Funeral Oration "Hard To The Core"
I say "Crap to the Core"! But this band has a good drummer. Go figure. 99-cent bin.
Track 13: Heckle "Along For The Ride"
Can you say CIV rip off? 99-cent bin.
Track 14: 88 Fingers Louie "100 Proof"
Good stuff. $8.99 bin.
Track 15: Digger "Box Full Of Letters"
Pretty cool. Wait for $3.99 bin though. I shoot Digger squirrels and I have a box of letters. I should shoot my box of letters then put the Digger squirrel in it and send it to The Queers. I will have to consult with Levi and the rest of Loose Change before I do that.
Track 16: Samiam "Dull"
Ok, Jesus! Go buy the new Samiam...it's good. Plus, this song talks about The Doughboys...that is always good. Pay full price.
Track 17: Mustard Plug "Yesterday"
You probably bought this at full price by now and that is good.
Track 18: The Queers "Rip It Up"
Guys from Yreka and junior high kids would say that this is "gay". You can buy this if you want, I won't stop you.
Track 19: The Nobodys "Dude's Gonna Shoot"
Very old school. Buy it if you like old school punk. But wait for $3.99 bin.
Track 20: Selby Tigers "World Without Charm"
There is a high school in Northern Georgia called Selby High. Their mascot is a tiger. The cheerleaders have won the National Cheerleader Competition eighteen years in a row. One cheerleader went on to become a Dallas Cowboy cheerleader and three went on to become soft and hardcore porn stars. One girl was kicked off last year because she had her own nude website...she was totally stacked for an eighteen-year old! $3.99 bin.
Track 21: Against All Authority "In On Your Joke"
99-cents max.
Track 22: Dillinger Four "Maximum Piss and Vinegar"
I am a biased bastard! You all will love this band. Pay double retail price...like they do on The Price Is Right.
Track 23: The Weakerthans "Confessions of a Futon Revolutionist"
This band is so mellow and cool! The lyrics of all The Weakerthans songs are beautiful. Pure poetry. They should do a movie called Pure Poetry. It would be just like Pure Country but without cowboy hats and George Strait. Just weird and potentially gay Canadians.
