Old Tricks
Everybody loves a puppy.
Flesh and hair smelling good,
before they take up smoking.
No arguing.
Just flopping romping.
Before they've read Catcher in the Rye.
Everybody loves a puppy.
Before they choose a party.
Before they choose choice.
Before the slobbering becomes barking,
and the second-guessing of
Who's master?
Everybody wants a puppy
to stay a puppy.
Sit.
Beg.
Stay.
